The success of a project often depends on a close association between the various contributors. The following are architects and companies who we frequently work with, and have over the years established very good working relationships:

Anta Architecture

Anta Architecture projects usually fall into the large and prestigous catagory, such as shooting lodges, large estate houses, public buildings etc. We have worked with Anta for many years and are pleased to have supplied many projects with windows and doors.

Carbonlite Design and Build

CARBONlite Design and Build is dedicated to providing cost effective, low energy buildings using locally sourced and sustainable materials with low embodied energy with minimal environmental impact. We are a design and build company with extensive experience in both sectors of the industry, which gives us integrated control of the project through every part of the procurement and delivery process.

The CLDB construction system has been developed to create extremely high performance buildings in Scotland’s temperamental climate incorporating a choice of natural insulating materials- straw-bale, sheep wool, hemp and wood-fiber. Our unique volumetric construction system allows for very flexible designs to be built off site in our workshop with second fix electrics, plumbing and windows already installed.

We deliver whole sections of building, which can be erected very quickly, usually within a day to wind and watertight stage.Locally sourced TreeCraft Woodwork windows have been a vital component in our builds with their reliable service and quality craftsmanship. If you would like to discuss your project then please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Ecological Architecture

Ecological Architecture are based at Tombreck alongside Loch Tay in Perthshire. Our project The Big Shed won Carbon Trust’s Low Carbon Building Award 2013 for newbuild, which has validated our approach to architectural design. We undertake projects from the smallest extension or conversion to small public buildings. We help community groups to progress their projects and offer design and project management assistance to self-builders.We use natural materials such as Hemcrete, straw bales and local timber. Highly insulated building envelopes using sheep’s wool, hemp or wood fibre batts, ensure that renewable technologies, chosen specifically each location, are employed in a very efficient manner with the possibility of selling surplus electricity. The requirement for space heating is kept to a minimum, often employing biomass boilers such as wood pellet stoves, linked with solar photovoltaics to provide heating and hot water.

Our construction techniques exclude the use of materials that can potentially give-off gas VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) into the interior or pollute the environment during construction. These processes ensure that the building fabric ‘breathes (like a Gortex jacket) and provides an above average level of interior comfort. The use of clay and lime plasters internally is also well liked by our clients. The location of the building is the starting point of each design and we aim to maximise the benefits offered by it and respond imaginatively and ‘politely’ to it, whilst responding to our client’s stated needs and budget. The aesthetic quality of our buildings is embedded in the materials that we use to enclose and manipulate space in ways that are pleasing-some say inspirational- and functional.
We work closely with our clients from the outset to the completion of their project, or to any stage as required. We have specified Treecraft windows in many of our projects and find them to be of high quality, both in the product itself and the service offered. Please contact us for a preliminary discussion of your project, or an idea of one. We offer services for planning, design, building warrant and construction management stages and work closely with a consultant structural engineer, quantity surveyor, service engineer and others as appropriate for each project. Makar and Neil Sutherland Architects

MAKAR is an architect-led design and build company who make contemporary ecological homes in Scotland.Based in Inverness, MAKAR is led by local architect Neil Sutherland and incorporates Neil Sutherland Architects LLP. The company integrates architectural design, specialist off-site manufacturing and on-site construction to deliver a complete design and build service to clients. Integrated design and build services mean greater control over building projects from start to finish, resulting in greater certainty that projects will be delivered on time and within budget.MAKAR specialise in the use of local Scottish timber and use natural materials to make energy efficient buildings that are as appropriate to client needs as they are to the surrounding landscape. To date MAKAR have completed more than 50 buildings throughout Scotland. MAKAR now manufactures their own natural closed structural panels from their bespoke workshop. A MAKAR house can now arrive on site and be constructed to wind and watertight in an average timeframe of 3 days using this system.MAKAR believe in sourcing the best materials, components & services from a regional supply chain to support the local economy and minimise the carbon footprint of MAKAR buildings. MAKAR has chosen Treecraft Woodwork as preferred supplier due to the excellent quality of craftsmanship in their windows and doors and the reliable service they provide. For information on the range of services offered my MAKAR please visit www.makar.co.uk or call +44 (0)1463 709993

North Woods Construction

North Woods designs and builds timber buildings and structures of all sorts ranging from complete houses to wildlife hides and footbridges. Whilst we have always specialized in the use of home-grown timber and bolted post and beam frames, over the last five years we have been increasingly involved in the design and construction of so-called “massive
timber” structures. We have just completed our first cross-laminated timber house with panels from Switzerland but fitted out internally with home-grown Douglas fir and a Scottish sycamore floor and externally with vacuum-coated Scotlarch cladding.

Designs by North Woods typically display extensive glazing, in places from floor to ceiling and often contrasted with small, framed windows some of which have a thin horizontal emphasis - framing the spectacular mountain and sea views of the Highlands where we mostly work. Treecraft have supplied nearly all our framed windows for over 15 years as well as many doors, internal, external and often fully glazed. Treecraft also introduced us to the Gutmann Lara dry glazing system some years ago which has become a bit of a trademark for North Woods allowing direct glazing of finely finished post and beam frames without need for additional timber framing elements. This technology has contributed
significantly to the clean, modern lines and finishes that characterize all North Woods projects. Treecraft supply the aluminium components and we site-install them ourselves. In our latest house project at Clashnessie in west Sutherland, the Lara system used on large glazed screens integrates perfectly with the Gutmann Mira aluminium-faced, timberframed windows and doors also supplied by Treecraft.

North Woods has just started construction of new workshops near Ullapool in the north west Highlands to facilitate fabrication and construction of timber buildings. New equipment will allow us to process timber from our own plantation as well as to make almost any timber component we require. We aim to develop new products in our new facility including a small range of ʻpodsʼ for use as home offices and other accommodation which can be installed in a garden, for instance, in a matter of days. We will also be building on our experience of glue-laminated structures, maintaining our early lead in this field with the help of our partners, Eurban Ltd (London and Inverness). Indeed the new workshop itself will display an exciting blend of home-grown, home-processed timbers and state-of-the-art, cross-laminated elements from central Europe, an ecologically sound as well as aesthetically stunning combination that we plan to deliver whenever possible in the coming years.

Please do not hesitate to call us for an early discussion of any timber-based project as we prefer to offer all planning, design, fabrication and construction as a single, integrated and economic package. From the smallest shed to the largest house, all design work is carried out in full 3d on advanced architectural software allowing you to interact in and enjoy the design process fully.
